I recently confirmed my connection to this family by a Ancestry DNA test. I am descended from George Walter and Barbra Bush through their son Henry Walter, b. 1786 in Easton, Northampton Co. PA. I have been searching for many years to find parents for my Henry and it is with great relief that they have been found. If anyone wants detailed family history for my Henry Walter family, just let me know.

Hello, my great great grandfather was John Talbot Walter born in 1837 in Warren County, Indiana. His father was William S Walter, born October 03, 1795 in Georgetown, Virginia and died December 14, 1855 in Warren County, Indiana. He married Eleanor Leith (Leach) in about 1825 in Virginia, possibly Shenandoah. I can’t find any information past this and am wondering if your Walter family and mine might have common ancestors. I would appreciate any help. Thanks.

Some of the Walter family migrated to smaller islands like those in the Caribbean to expand their wealth. The bought Estates and built Mansions which have been passed down to the generations after them. Some like my uncles have become actors (Jules Walter), Artists (Frank and Jules Walter), politicians, Chairman (Vaughn Walter) Scientists (John Jacob Walter) Premiers (Sir George H.Walter) and even Minister of Trade Industry and Commerce (Selvin Walter).

I need to correct my Feb 19, 2015 News entry in which I stated Bernard (Barnet) Walter’s birth date as 1715. I have learned that several of us have had difficulty reconciling the conflicting birth years of 1715 and 1721, both of which have been reported for “Bernard”. And similarly there has been some confusion over his name being referred to as (Johann) Bernard vs Barnet. As it turns out, Barnet had an older brother named (Johann) Bernard who was in fact born May 13, 1715, but who died in infancy. For those of us who didn’t know that Barnet had a brother with that name and born in that year, it was natural to try to reconcile the 2 reported names and 2 reported birth dates into “one person”. Thanks to information on this website and other sources I now know that these were 2 siblings, and that Barnet was the survivor and 11 year old immigrant in 1732 that later had so many descendants, and his birth date was in fact Feb 17, 1721 and death date was Mar 22, 1781. I also credit this website with confirming our ancestry back to Barnet's father, (Hans) Bernhard, who at age 58 immigrated with his wife and 3 surviving children to the US. And yet even further back to his father, (Hans) Michael Walter, in the Palatinate. The Iowa Walter clan that I represent thanks Richard, Sarah, and other contributors to this website for sharing so much valuable Walter family history.

Hello Walter family. My name is Christopher McManus. The son of sherry. I’m trying to figure out if I’m related. I know her great grandfather left a trust fund for the family... Walter family trust? Is this the same family? I believe my mother and her family live in Arkansas? I live in Tampa, Florida with my family.

We just discovered this website and are descendants of Bernard Walter (1715-1781) who came to the US from the Palatinate on the ship Loyal Judith arriving in Philadelphia Sept 25, 1732. Our lineage then goes to Bernard’s son George (who with brothers Michael, John & Conrad served in the PA militia/Continental Army during the Revolutionary War), his son Leonard, his son Peter (who with his wife & children moved from PA to Iowa in 1868), his son Herbert Thomas, his son Donald Herbert, his son Donald Dean, myself Donald Herbert (Chip) and my 2 sons Colin & Morgan. There is some uncertainty as to Bernard’s (1715-1781) father’s identity in the documents I’ve seen—it may be Conrad who arrived on the Loyal Judith (at age 58?) with Bernard (who must have been 17). If this is true my sons represent the 10th generation of Walter’s in the US. I just came across the family tree work my mother had put together while clearing out my parent’s house following my father’s recent death. My son Colin then came across this website so I thought I’d chime in with another Walter lineage report. Thank you to those who have put this resource together!

Two brothers with different names? I am descended from Hans Conrad Walter(s), it seems the name got an “s” added or taken away at some point. Most likely added given that it German and may come from Walther? Anyway, I have all the info from Conrad down if anyone is interested in the Walters side.

Nothing like getting back from a long trip and having your pets demonstrate that they in fact did miss you. Such non-judgmental creatures! We went on a trip to White Sulphur Springs, WV to see friends. Visited the fabulous Greenbrier Hotel, which until early this year was owned by the CSX railroad people. They are now constructing gambling facilities next to the building. From there we went to Bowling Green , Kentucky. Sandra had a school friend that she had not seen for about 40 years from Minnesota. The friend and her husband were attending a Good Guys car show, bringing their 1950 Ford Custom. A second friend brought his 1963 Chevrolet Impala. The Ford did win a prize in a classification. There were perhaps 2,000 cars at this show from around the country. I am not a car person but probably looked at close to a thousand of them. Had to go to the National Corvette Museum and by the GM factory, which produces the Corvette–however, the factory tours were closed, as the factory was not producing any cars when we were there. After several days, all of us headed to Nashville , Tennessee . That place has a lively vibrant downtown with the streets lined with bars that have country music pouring out of all of them. Of course went to Opryland & various museums. I had to work in some of my personal interest on this trip: a nice rail museum in and at the old station at Bowling Green, KY. In Nashville, TN saw the old railroad station, which is now a hotel, and the new quaint commuter rail station downtown. Also took in the station at Bristol, TN /VA and the hotel once owned by the Norfolk Western Railway in Roanoke, VA plus a large transportation museum nearby. Daughter Anna Marie had worked on our second bathroom when we were gone. The throne had to be removed and put back for new flooring. Painted and all new cabinets, hardware, and electrical devices. I always knew Anna was creative but did not realized this extent of her talents.

A short time ago Kevin Earle and girlfriend Deborah stopped overnight in Vienna, VA on their way to Connecticut; we had a nice chat over breakfast. Richard & Sandra Walter, Jacob & Kelsey Walter-Johnson recently went to the mountains. We went to Luray, VA to see the underground caravans. Our trip included a drive on Skyline Drive and several nights at the Big Meadows Lodge in the Shenandoah National Park. We saw two days in a row, a mother bear and her two cubs {exciting} plus plenty of deer and rodent size animals. Still recovering from a long walk 442 feet down the side of a mountain to visit a waterfall. It took about ½ hour to get to the falls but an hour and ¼ to walk back up. About equal to a 44 story building! Richard took granddaughter Megan Walter-Johnson to the Smithsonian Museums the other day. We went to the American History Museum, Natural History Museum, and National Gallery of Art. Took in the Old Post Office Tower and rode the carousel on the mall a couple of times. Wednesday July 22, 2009 Sandra Walter and Anna, Megan & Jacob Walter-Johnson will fly to visit Sarah Walter in Long Beach, CA for a fun week.

Hello everyone. I like this Walter family connection a lot, I need to use it and check it more often. Spring is here yahoo! We will have been in the house a year next month only 29 more years to go and it will be mine. Framing in some walls down stairs to make an apartment, Hell let somebody else pay the mortgage, am I right?, or am I right! HA HA! Also thinking of starting to board a few dogs also. Calling it “ANIMAL HOUSE” dog kennel. Let you know how things go. Love to all.

We went skiing at Timberline ski resort in Davis, WV with the Cub Scouts. Had an awesome day. The weather was in the 50’s, the mountains were beautiful. Everyone did well until the last run of the day. Kelsey went of the snow and hit her hand on a rock. A little detour to the ER said she had a sprained hand. She is ok. Said she had a blast in spite of the injury! More skiing on Sunday. Packed up and visited Blackwater Falls. Very pretty. That’s all for now. I love WV. I could move there. Annie and the Gang.

Hello Everyone!

Richard has been feeding me small updates over the last 2 months, so there are little changes here and there. I started a new job in October with an interactive design agency in Long Beach called Visualade. I am working on lots of different projects from branding and identity for a new company to website redesigns as well as a magazine. Lots of variety, great co-workers and clients, and learning new things—so far, so good...

I should be packing to fly back East tomorrow, but instead I am working on upgrading functionality features on the website. I improved features to add news updates more easily, and this is a test to make sure it works live.

Any family member can add news updates, you simply must register first (a very simple form). Once you have registered, you just login with your email address and password, and add news to your heart's content... Taking a trip? Let others know! Getting a new job, moving, getting married, having a kid? Post a news update!

Okay, I am going to hit "Submit" and like magic it will update the news page. I will then pry myself away from my beloved Mac and finish getting ready for my trip... oh, what will I do for the next few weeks without my computer?? I keep telling myself “It will be okay...” =)
